I took this video on some evening this summer of this shelf cloud. I think it's from some outflow from a dying thunderstorm. I'm not 100% positive, though. Although it was moving kind of quick, it produced little to no ground wind from what I could tell.

Hot!

High temps will be in the low to mid 90s. Temps may be  Due to some humidity, the heat index may reach into the 100s. Great, I know you are looking as forward to it as I am...not.

I was expecting some severe storms to pop-up yesterday in the "slight risk" area but there were very few. And, of course, they were a good ways away from here. Oh well.

SPC issues a "SLIGHT RISK" for a huge chunk of East TN; expect showers and t-storms

The SPC says that scattered storms will increase as the day progresses and that they may form a MCS, with the biggest threat being damaging winds.

MRX seems to be playing today's possility of severe wx down. This morning Hazardous Weather Outlook (HWO) states that "no hazardous weather is expected" and that the "strongest storms could produce gusty winds up to 40 mph...and brief to heavy rains in excess of one inch per hour".

The latest NAM and GFS model runs shows low to moderate instability across the region. CAPE values max out around 2000 kg while LI values top out at -4 c. So instability is by no means impressive. A band of rain that is presently moving through the region may put some moisture into the atmosphere, creating a more instable situation for the afternoon and evening hours.
